Risk Assessments

Risk Assessment

Analytical models were needed to evaluate the spread and detection of HPAI infections during an outbreak. Science based proactive risk assessments were conducted by USDA APHIS VS Centers for Epidemiology and Animal Health (CEAH) in collaboration with the University of Minnesota to estimate the risk of transmission of HPAI to epidemiologically linked poultry premises through the movement of various egg products and associated material. These risk assessments considered the active surveillance program described in the Egg Movement Control Plan (EMC Plan) as well as product-specific biosecurity, C&D practices, and applicable Federal regulations. These risk assessments can be used by decision makers to issue permits for movement of eggs and egg products in the event of an HPAI outbreak. The following table summarizes these proactive risk assessments.
